Roots hints not availabe in windows 2000 server test machine

I installed a dns on a test machine which I promoted it to a domain controller and made it active directory integerted.
It appears I might have selected a wrong opion during dns intstallation so on the dns server, the root hint is empty and that server is configured as the root.
How can I reverse this? do I need to uninstall and reinstall or just delete the root from the dns?

sounds like you corrupted cache.dns file on installation.
