Okay, I know there is a file somewhere that restricts root logins to console only. I would like to remove this restriction and was wondering which file I need to edit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

Edit file /etc/default/login

Put Hash for CONSOLE parameter.

#CONSOLE=/dev/console

I hope know you can login to root from other terminals also.

It didnt look like your last response gave you the filename so here you go:/etc/default/login

comment out the 'CONSOLE' line

Might I point out that this is a *bad* thing. Just create a user using admintool and su to root. I have a small home network and I still do this. Its just good practice. In fact, some of my systems only have a root account and I have to ssh into it.

I would have done this login as normal user and say
su - root and the password i hope it works coz it worked for me.
