Robotic Library Hardware Error

Hi,

Recently when performing backups, I randomly encountered the "Robotic Library Hardware Error." I've tried a few of the recommended revisions by BackupExec such as removing and reinstalling the drive, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have noticed however, that after uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, it will now inventory properly and the backups become queued instead of producing a "Robotic Library Hardware Error."

I also just noticed that I was prompted for a Library Insert. In which, the exact message was "Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using hte import command." Hope that helps.

You might want to look into upgrading the tape drive's firmware (most tape drives support this, see the manufacturer's web site). Also replacing the cable to thw tape drive sometimes helps. If the errors still persist, you'll need to call support for the tape drive.

"Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using hte import command."

That usually means the backup job reached the end of the tape and needs an additional tape to complete the job.

With the robotic arm error, it could also indicate that the 'claw' on the arm is having problems 'grabbing' tapes.

Don't forget the almighty restart of the server itself. I've had library errors and restarting the media server fixer her. Also powered down the tape first. Did an inventory to find a faulty tape head maybe.
