As the person with the tread above I see a lot of issues and request for help regarding Roaming issues with the Spectralink WiFi SIP 8440 phone but no solution.
We have been working with both Spectralink and Aruba on this Roaming issue with no solution yet.
Seems that when you get to -89 (at that point calls are choppy or lose call) then it will move to a closer AP. We have everything setup as per best practice guide using Sub band 1 and 4 (Aruba calls Suband 4 lower band 3) & Auto for power. Firmware on phone is 4.9
Also added in idle mode this file
device.wifi.noBkgScanRssi="-58" and made some changed from -65 to -73 to -58 I walk around the site in idle mode and don't see the 8440 roam to a closer AP point. I will get to -80 or up and then it will move.
Aruba recommended also to Enable Advertise 802.11d & h Capabilities. And it has been done along with
<band5GHz.subBand2
device.wifi.radio.band5GHz.subBand2.enable="1"
device.wifi.radio.band5GHz.subBand2.enable.set="1"
device.wifi.radio.band5GHz.subBand2.txPower="7"
device.wifi.radio.band5GHz.subBand2.txPower.set="1" />
This did not help.
As far as the SSID network is concerned we are using security mode WPA-PSK (5ghz only) What I did notice is if you use WPA2-PSK Enterprise there are options for fast roaming but was told the PSK is quicker.
Has anyone out there had the same issue any ideas thoughts ??? Thanks Joe

Have spent a bit of time getting these 8440/8441's to play nice with Wi-Fi. WPA2-Ent required the use of certificates and this did not fix any roaming issues for us. Can I ask what regulatory domain you have your phones in, and what channels you're using on 5GHz? -89dB is definitely too low to roam

Don't confuse DTMF with DTF. They have very different meanings....

Hi Nekminnit,
Reg Domain 1 Sub Band 1 (chan 36,40,44,48) Sub Band 4 (149,153,157,161) Not using chan 165
Are you using Aruba Wifi? But not using enterprise WPA-PSK Security.

Hey mate,

I am actually using HP controllers (I've used 2x different HP controllers with the 8440 Spectralink handsets)and am using WPA-PSK security. With reg domain 1 I am assuming you're in North America?

I note you say you're walking around in idle mode and testing the roam.. What do you mean by idle? Also, I assume you're getting your RSSI from the Diagnostic>Wi-Fi menu in the phone? Settings>4>4>5>next>next? Are you on a call when you're testing this?

Does the handset 'see' another channel with a better RSSI?

Let me know
