Good Afternoon,

I have a serious problem on a client, all backups are giving error 98.6 status, RM-COBOL use, I use the recovery to recover and says:

File: COCTA1 - Bad block overhead in block 101

Recovery failed. The portion of the data records from index file may COCTA1
exist in the data recovery file is specified recover2.
See the Utilities Appendix of the RM / COBOL-85 User's Guide
   for more information.

Can anyone help me?

Best Regards
João ALpande

You can try to run recover2, as described in the RM/COBOL User's Guide. It will most likely also produce an error, but because it is a fallback recovery mechanism, it may still get more records out of your file.

RM/COBOL indexed files are divided into blocks. Each of the blocks has an overhead portion, used to store metadata rather than application data. recovery tests the overhead for integrity before attempting to discover any application data that might be in the block.

What is the output of rmmapinx? This utility is also described in the User's Guide. Knowing this output will help determine what steps should be attempted next.

What version of recovery and RM/COBOL are you using?

I am sorry, but the version you are using is very, very old. I cannot offer any additional help, since there is no documentation still around for version 6.
