I'm trying to locate premanufactured (and tested) cables that are 1 pair terminated on an RJ11 mod plug that can be punched down on 66 or 110 block or 4 pair to 4 rj11 plugs but my internet search keywords must be off. Does anyone have a manufacturer and/or part number for this item.

graybar sells a dw4 cut cord that has 2 rj11 jacks on the ends that can be cut and terminated. tehy come in different lengths

Avaya sells a kind of what you are looking for. In the Tenovis Integral 5 Portfolio you can buy 8 x Rj45 2Pair 5m open End. I think it is available in europe only.

If you are in the US we use a company from either Rhode Island or CT named progressive. They will make everything you want. I get them double ended and cut one end off. I will take 10 foot and cut them in half.

I'm not a telco engineer but curious what's the application for rj11 to punchdown ?

In this day and age...would't most runs be 4 pair ----2 ports minimum per plate, and just use standard patch cables ? Even if you are doing digital phone installs....

Just curious ?

People use them to go from the modular ports on the IPO to punch down block. 66 or 110 or Bix or Krone... With standard patch cords they have stranded cable and it does not punch well.

Even though a 4 pair Cat 5e cable is run, if you cut down the entire cable to either 66 blocks or 110 blocks, you make the other 3 pairs of wires available for other applications, including up to 3 additional digital telephones. Terminating a 4 pair cable onto a single position on a patch panel is kind of a waste of copper if you only use a single pair. Another application is installing a system and re-using existing cabling; most of the "classic" style installs have house cable terminated to either the 66 or 110 blocks already.

I hear ya on the classic styles ;-)
It's been a long while since I've been at a shop wired as such.

Bearing the field guys, you guys must see it all ....

Question - and this is subjective. Yes, I am aware that digital on IPO only needs 1 pair .

Do you guys feel that putting a RJ11 in a RJ45 port --degrades, deshapes-- the port pins over the long run. I forgot the reasoning for it, but it's something to do with the shape of the plugs and how it rests against the unused pins

Although it increases the hardware cost, on our IP Office installs, we will put a patch panel on the rack with the IPO. Then, using 25-pair cable, put one pair per port, on the Wht/Blu punchdown. Run the 25-pair back to the wiring field, terminate on a 66 block, and run jumpers to the station cables from there. Back at the rack, just use a standard Cat-5 patch cable to go from the IPO's station ports to the patch panel.

TTT we do that on a lot of our installs too. makes the install very clean and neat.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

TTT - your pic is our preferred method as well; for many reasons. Unfortunately, even with pic in hand, I am unable to convince customer of benefits.

Keep in mind that if you have any issues with digital phones after your cut, the first thing Avaya will ask is if you are using Cat5 patch cords for your connections. You are better off cross connecting your 66/110 block connections to a Cat5 patch panel, then jumper to your DS30's via cat5 patch cord.

Kevin, do you have the contact info for "Progresive", please? Thanks!

or if possible, move the exsisting wiring to patch panels...

If the building wiring is on standard blocks then the way TouchToneTommy has pictured is the only way to make it neat and in truth is that expensive.

Small Data Cab £150
2 50 Way Voice Panels £75
100 Pr Multi Core + Krone blocks £20

Job well done PRICELESS!!!!!!

[All prices are guess work and if you want a quote it will be more than this!!!!!!!] ;-)
