I also need to know the risks (and how potentially catastrophic they could be), with the following actions -

· Presenting an additional lun to a server already connected to the SAN (and already using SAN attached disks)

· Removing a single lun from a server

· Removing all luns presented to a server

as well as -

Plugging new cables into a switch/director

Removing cables from a switch/director

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what is your host/OS? unix? windows? Unix is more flexible than windows (as I know at least), you can unmount the disk drive and erase the drive definition.

adding new luns: no problem.
remove luns: depend on OS (data on it? backup it)
remove all luns: depend on OS (data on it? backup it)

plugin new cables: no problem
removing cables: depend on OS, is it used?

Windows, does this make it more tricky?

take the drive letter(s) out (e.g. drive R:) and then erase the disk drive (from hardware admin) before to remove the LUN from the storage group.
