I have installed the RIS service on my 2003 server and uploaded an image to the server after running ripprep on a workstation.

I've succesfully downloaded this image to a similar workstation but have found all the regional settings have defaulted back to US.

I've picked up a message from another forum saying that I can create a .SIF file with the approriate settings by running setupmgr and selecting create a new answer file for - "Remote Installation Services". I have done this and copied the SIF file (RISTNDRD.SIF) to the appropriate image templates folder.

Now when I start the workstation up and initiate the image download it goes as far as the "Setup is inspecting your computer hardware ..." and is then followed by the message "Line 112 of the INF file tmp\d532ef01725911d6bfe5f20d4d8ff228.sif" is invalid".

I'm unaware of a INF file and the filename looks similar to the mac address of the machine.

What am I doing wrong here?

Any help greatly appreciated.

A bit late :-[ but would you like a step by step guide to creating and customisng a .sif answer? AnExample of this is being able to set the answers file to strip windows components. I work in a school and removes the games off of our standard RIS image using the .sif answer file.

I am a happy to you our answer files. Have you added drivers to RIS using the %oem% folder and the answer file.

Best of luck
JB.

Hi nlldavies,

My problem is a bit different from yours but I believe you can give info on how you did yours.

I have installed RIS on my Windows 2003 active directory server that has DNS and DHCP running on it.

I used Riprep tools to create Win 2000 Pro image on the RIS server.

I used another client of the same hardware resources to test my RIS.

When I started the client and select to boot from network. I supplied adminstrator account and password, I select the image on the RIS server.

At the middle of the text mode (when the client is copying the image), It gave this error mesage"

(The operating system image you selected does not contain the necessary drivers for your network adapter. Try selecting a different operating system image. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator)

Im sure the problem is not DHCP or DNS because I can see the RIS server and even the RIS image on the server.

I will appreciate your contribution on this.

Thanks.

Leke
