I connect to RIS and enter the name/password etc, the confirm format drive in CIW. Drivers are loaded, then the screen "Staring windows 2000" appears however, my screen goes blank shortly afterwards and the client hangs. What is it trying to tell me ?

I had this problem and then I fixed it. Problem is I can't remeber how!!!! I'm sure it was either:

1: Upgrade of the BIOS

2: Integrating SP into the i386 directory on the RIS server

I'm sure there's a Microsot Q article on this as well.

Start with the BIOS. Let me know if that doesn't fix it and I'll have a look through my old notes.... Glenn

Everything tried and I found some Microsoft Articles, biut nothing solved my problem!!!!!

I had the same problem on a Compaq Deskpro EN that was my test machine, although the screen didn't go blank. The BIOS was up-to-date and we use RIS quite a lot here so we know most of the tricks. This model came with a single 64 Meg DIMM and I had added a 128 Meg DIMM at some point (yeah, it was Compaq memory). Then when I decided to RIS it to use as something else I had the same problem. It would only RIS after removing the 128 Meg DIMM, then re-inserting it after the OS was installed. The machine worked fine otherwise and it would always pass on the memory diags.

This is cause by the security features in Sp1, If you slip stream the service pack, remove the image and create another without the Sp. Microsoft have a fix for that but you have to contact them
