RIS AN IMAGE ON A VM (VMWARE3.0)?
Has anyone ever successfully deployed a RIS image of W2KPRO on a Vmware 3.0 virtual machine?
How do you do it?

I am getting no IP address from my W2KADVS DHCP.

I am getting the "no response from server" error. DHCP is working for a physical client and a WINNT4 SVR running a VM. I followed KB articles and removed the default gateway setting from the DHCP options, I applied W2KSP2. Still "no DHCP server". RIS supports the AMD PC NET NIC. I think this is the same as the virutal NIC supplied by VMWARE. Roger Newhall

As far as I know - VMware does not support networking. It's a "virtual Machine", so in effect it can only use what you provide it - it cannot use your existing NIC to estalish a "virtual ethernet connection"...anybody know otherwise? I'd sure like to know how to do it as well..

TO PBXMAN:

VMWARE 2.0 and 3.0 support networking. In my original question I point out that I have Window NT4 running in a virutal machine and it has network connectivity with my host environment. That is pretty basic. Just run the setup and take the defaults and that works.

The tough part is installing Microsoft Remote Installation services, creating a client boot disk with RBFG.EXE, and then booting to the Windows 2000 domain in the host environment with that disk.

I seem to remember hearing someone tell me that had done it. VMWARE support wrote me a useless message back. The guy who wrote me does not seem to know how to do it. Roger Newhall
