I need to know if anyone has done this before. (Background NFO) Our local telco provides a ring down ckt between 2 CO lines so if you pick up 1 and go off hook it rings the other line. All this done within the CO switch. I know viking makes a product (Viking DLE-200B) that does something similar, the difference is, it rings if either goes off hook. Meaning if 1 can ring the other but neither is connected to a CO line. Great if you need no "real" dial tone at say phone #1. So here's the question. At phone #1 I need to have dial tone from the telco ( to use as everyday phone) and recieve ring down from another source. At phone #2 I need to have it ring phone #1 when it goes off hook with no dial tone from the telco. Is there a product that does this or a way to use the afore mentioned viking with line exclusion. I'm really searching on this one.

How about using a 2-line phone for phone #1? 2 line phones are cheap these days.

Conect the DLE to Line 2 and the CO line to Line 1.

The other idea would be to use a baby PBX. Have the two lines at location #1 set up as trunks and hav ethem both pointed at the phone at #1 as an extension.

The two trunks me need to be in separate trunk groups so that when phone #1 dials 9 it does not hunt oveer toeh ring-down trunk (if the system used a circular hunt this would happen on every second outpund call)

doh.......so simple i over looked it thanks

geez... :(

Hey,

don't feel bad. That is what these forums are for! Better to ask for help and get it, than to waste lots of time when your brain won't break out of mold!

Question #1 that should be asked is are these two phones on the same premises or are they in different buildings?

You do talk about a TELCO ring down circuit which has me wondering.

yep..they are in the same bldg. The purpose of the viking device was to get rid of a monthly business phone charge. And the viking ring down device will go about 2 miles. If you had a dedicated pair that was yours. I'm not sure who has that kind of money to have their own cable in the ground or in the air to use it for that purpose.

what type of phone switch are you using ?

a lot have some form of ringdown availble thru programing .
may called something other than ring down

If it is an Avaya system that they are using this can be done by using these stations as a "hotline destination" on the abbrviated dialing list on the station forms.
