I need to know if it is possible to ring a person's extension as well as his/her cell phone at the same time and if the call is not answered, have the voice mail pick it up. We need this for a help desk person who might be out on a call and will not be at their desk to answer the call when it comes in.

Well if you have the Right To Use turn on for telecommuting you could give your help desk the option to change the cover path to follow the second cover option. That number would be the cell phone. So when they are at the desk its on cover option 1 and when they are away from the desk its on cover option 2. you can put abrv-dial on the phone to make the switch. But if it goes to the cell and the cell phone voice mail picks up, it will not come back to the desk voice mail. Wisdom is Knowledge

Check out the EC500. With EC500, calls to your office number are extended to your cell phone, allowing you
to receive work-related calls wherever you are and whenever you need to. EC500even provides office caller ID, so you know who’s calling before you answer. You'll need the RTU's and two DS1 cards to get it to work.

Yea, not sure I've done EC500 with IP trunking actually.. You can use EC500 with just more than Cell phones..

I need to clarify myself a little more. The help desk number is part of a vector for timing purposes. The call is routed to a cover answer group with 8 extensions in it. Is there a way to put the cell phone number in the cover answer group? I can remove a couple of extensions that are in it now to make room. It doesn't look like it will allow you to do this. I only need this to happen from the hours of 8 - 5 m-f. Thanks for all the replies. I don't know what the EC500 is. Any additional information would be appreciated.

I think the simplest thing to do in this situation is change remote coverage. The command is "change cov remote" You plug in to one of the open spaces the user's cell phone number (preceded by a 9). For example,
01[918885550000]. Write down the number of the slot you input the cell number to. Create a coverage path. In the first point of coverage input "r01" (that is "r" for remote and "01" for slot number of cell phone from previous step). The next point of coverage should be your voice mail hunt group number. Adjust the number of rings to something comfortable like 2 or possibly 3. This will allow the user to receive calls at their desk and cell phone simultaneously. This is set up so neat that what it does when it calls out to the user's cell phone is create a conference call with the first open line appearance on their desktop. Say they are in a colleague's office down the hall, and they have their cell phone with them at the time; they would be able to get the call on their cell, return to their desk, and pick up the lit appearance of that call from their telephone. Like all good things, there is a small hitch. Eventhough this works like a charm, cell phones tend to be bad boys and girls at times. If the cell phone doesn't drop the call, the calling party will be transferred into the user's cell phone mailbox instead of their office mailbox. That is the only thing that may pose a problem, but even that is minor because the call is never lost. Hope I was clear and helpful.

What version software are you on?
That will make a difference as to if you have some of the options avaialable that are mentioned above.

tbg247,

Thank you for the reply. Everything works they way you said except they do not ring at the same time. In the cover path, it will ring the phone first for 4 times, then ring the cell phone 3 times. They are not ringing at the same time. Any other information would be great. Thanks again.

Unless your have bridged call appearance or EC 500, the two phones will not ring at the same time.

You are using coverage path to cover incoming calls. If you are away from the primary phone, you should activate send-call then the secondary phone will ring immediately when someone call you.

Hope this help!

kcbell,

Thanks for the info. I do have bridged call appearance. how would I go about using the bridged calls for this. Thanks in advance.

This is neat, however I can't quite get it to work as you've described either. We're on a G3si v6. When i get the call on my cell, its after 4 rings at the station, then it rings 4 times to my cell - i can get the bridged appearance, but not when i hang up my cellphone. When i hand up the cellphone, it disconnects the call even though i switch to the phone at my station again. The calls don't ring both at the same time.

Maybe im missing a simple step..could you explain exactly how the bridged appearance is setup? I too could see good use for:

cell & station to ring at same time, call goes to station VM if there is no answer at station OR cell, and call continues if talking on cellphone and i get back to work and pickup my staion phone.
