I am administering an access front end database with SQL Server 7.0 handling the data. I have a problem user who is connecting to same data in the same way as everyone else and has the exact same front end as everyone else too but when they try to enter more than 256 characters into a 5000 character field they experience the error:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation (#0)

and the data is cut the 255 characters. As far as I am aware there is no difference to this user setup as opposed to others, who can all enter upto 5000 characters no problem. Have reinstalled Access and plugins to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Matt, I don't have the exact answer, but I believ the issue centers around the inability of an older version of the ODBC connector to handle text strings longer than 255 characters. See what that user has as far as driver versions and bring them up to speed with the other users.

I reckon you could be right - the problem user has a version of sqlsvr32.dll dated 08/04/98 but another user has the same file dated 2001. I tried to copy the newer file directly into the winnt\system32 folder but this did'nt work (can't connect to SQL server at all) - I'm wondering if this update came as part of a suite of updates i.e Service Pack - would this be what I need to install on the machine, and which particular version?

Many thanks
Matt
