Hello,

I have designed a report that prints on 14" x 8.5" paper (legal size). I have set the margins to .17 all around. When I preview the report--in my front end app--it shows fine. When I print it, however, another 1/4" of right-hand margin is added. This is cutting off the data on the right side of the report. I have updated my printer drives and tried printing to multiple printers, all to no avail. If I set the margins to 0, then the right prints out, but the left is cut off. I have checked my prnter settings and there is no way to specify default margins. It seems that they are document defined settings. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

What type of printer is it?

It may be that the printers can't print that close to the edge (Many lasers are this way).

Try setting both sides to 1/4 inch if the data allows.

I have tried to print to both an Epson Stylus 800 Color and an HP Laserjet 1200. They both do the same thing. I too though that it was the printer, but I can't find a way to change printer margin defaults...if they even exist.

Thanks for the help, but it actually made it worse. Any other ideas?

Too hard to tell without seeing the report.

What does made it worse mean?

Are both sides truncated, or?

Where in relationship to the margins are you placing the fields?

There's always a little discrepency.

this allows for custom paper sizes, which may help.

Just in case, make sure that you apply the CR hotfixes:

I have really not had a problem with the left side of the report. When I say "mdae it worse", I mean that more of the right column is cut off. It is a landscape report and the columns are just inside of the margins.

If it were me, at this point I would reduce the font size by 1 pt and scrunch the fields a little closer together. Or perhaps they are already as small as they can reasonably be?

As an experiment, I did a dummy report with all of the fonts that Crystal 8.5 would let me use on Windows XP, and then tried printing them to two different printers. Even with Ariel font, you sometimes get slightly different output, and with other fonts it was very marked. And of course the two printers were different from each other and from the screen display, even though this was all on a single system.

Crystal just isn't WISYWIG, something that looks fine on the screen may fail on the printer.

Tricks for fitting more fields are (a) use a smaller font, such as Ariel Narrow. (b) for long fields, do a test on length and reduce the point for the longest names using format. (c) allow 'Can Grow' on some fields, so that a few records use two lines while the rest fit in a smaller space.
