Hello All,

just the other day I tried to send 2 attachments to a customer and 3 times the attachments weren't attached to the e-mail. I have previously sent e-mails with attachments to this customer without problems. The only way I was able to get the attachments to appear for the customer was to uncheck Rich Text in Properties from within File. I've never had this problem before...why is this happening all of a sudden..? The customer and a friend who I sent test e-mails to, who also experienced the problem, were using Outlook Express 5. I also sent test e-mails to my own accounts where I was able to receive the attachments, except my hotmail accounts which showed the attachments as winmail.dat files. Anybody got any thoughts on this matter..? Any help appreciated in advance..

If you send a message from Outlook in Rich Text with attachments to someone with Outlook Express and not the full version of Outlook, the attachments will not be received. If you change your mail format to HTML or Plain Text and attach whatever you want, the attachments will be received irrespective of whether the recipient has the full version of Outlook or Outlook Express.

Hotmail and other web mail services seem to have a problem with some attachments from Outlook and will be received simply as winmail.dat files. If you use the Signatures option to attach your signature to e-mail or of you attach your electronic business card to your mail and transmit to Hotmail (and other web mail services) these will also be received as winmail.dat files.

Hope this helps.

pansin,

brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, it's the little annoying things that we wanna solve so much. is there a way to set html or plain text as the default in Outlook2000 so that i don't have to keep going to properties and changing for every e-mail..any help is once again greatly appreciated.

On the Tools bar select Options, then the Mail Options tab. In the top portion of this window is the place where you specify the message format and you can change it here.

thanx all...the help fron this site has been warm, friendly and very helpful.cheers all.

hmm,
I'm having a problem similar to the one above:
I'm sending my emails in HTML (NOT rtf) format from Outlook 2000 but several recipients are not able to receive them. These recipients include users of Outlook 2000 at work and Outlook Express at home. I can receve the same email at my home account (Outlook 2000).

Therefore I don't think sending the email in RTF is the cause of the problem as my emails are being sent in HTML.

Now I AM confused!! and no help on MS Support site either. Any suggestions?
