Can anyone tell me if the internet feed from the cable company and direct tv can work together on the RG 6/U
cabe which was pre wired/used for all connections to transmit signal within the house OR do I need 2 lines.....
For Internet connectivity cable modems use frequencies outside the normal bandwidth required for television. Depending on the system the downstream signal is in the 700mHz range and the upstream (return) in the 40mHz range.
You could try diplexing the DSS (DirecTV) and cable modem signals but it might not work since the cable modem up and down stream frequencies are close to the cut-off points of most diplexers. Additionally there may be a problem with the upstream path being blocked by the diplexer since some RF devices are unidirectional.
I posted this question and I can tell you that combining the two signals on the same line with a "diplexer" will work..I have been enjoying DirectTv and Broadband cable for
2 weeks...
My concern was the closeness of the cable modem frequencies to the diplexer cutoffs. The other concern about voltage is not a problem since diplexers for DSS only pass voltage on the DSS ports.
