We are using Symbol PDT6800's. It seems that when we boot one of our terminals (A-B-D-PWR), we get the following message:

Driver forgot to set the MSMTxFreeCount variable during the DriverInit
S110DIxx-DOS-6: The adapter did not initialize. S110DIxx did not load.
RF driver failed to load!!

I have tried to reload the hex files, but that doesn't seem to fix the problem (not the first time I tried to reload them at least). Has anyone else ever encountered this situation and found a solution for it, or should I send the unit in for repair (out of the warranty period, of course)?

Sounds like the software is not finding a good working FR board to initilaize. I would take the unit apart and check connections. If the unit is dropped the connections can come loose. The RF board looks like a standard PCMIA network card. If this does not correct the problem the unit will probally need replaced or sent to Symbol.

I have the same problem that is getting bigger...around 14 terminals.
Do you have another solutions?
I have checked the connections, cleaned the contacts between RF card and the motherboard and everything worked fine ... but after some time (few hours) the problem was still there.

The same message is displayed also if you remove the RF card...

Did anyone find a solution for this other than calling symbol support directly?

WOW I did not know there was a BarCode section here at tek tips. Glade I found it since I may be able to help here. You are hurting. The mfg date on those guns are around 2000 and 2001 may have a defect where some non symbol RF boards were put in and Symbol did not aprove this mod. I had around 30 go bad and fought like hell to get it resolved. I do not know how to fix it but do know Symbol is aware. Good Luck let me know how it goes.

I finally got a resolution through Symbol tech support on this problem. In our case the guns that were getting this message have bad RF boards. There is no fix for this except to get the RF board replaced.

Smybol did mention that this error could occur if the wrong hardware or wrong software was being used. In our case I had loaded the same software on hundreds of units previously so I knew that was not the case.
