Hi,
When I reverse the playback of clips in premiere 6.0 I usually set the speed to -100. However, when I export I notice that certain clips which play in reverse have some pixelation which is quite noticeable. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so is there a way to reverse a clip so that its quality remains as good as a normal clip. Could this even be a bug in premiere 6.0?

Thanks.

I just started using Premiere 6.0 and i can't figure out how to reverse clips. i'm pretty sure it's simple but just can't seem to find it!

MonkeyDog,
Right click the clip on the timeline, choose speed and set the new speed to -100 if you want it just played in reverse. You should come across the pixelation problem I get....

Since most codecs use frame differences for compression, changing the order of the frames changes the encoding. If one frame said "I'm this different from the previous frame" but the previous frame is now immediately after it, it wouldn't be able to decode correctly. I would imagine it would lead to a lot of digital artifacts.

I'm sure premiere re-encodes everything, and should be able to get around it, but just for a test, try using a codec that encodes each frame independently, such as MJPEG or DV, and not some form of MPEG (like DivX).

Just a thought from a code monkey. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...but I'm just a C man trying to see the light
