Reverse Relationships?

Hi,

I'm running FileMaker Pro 6, and I'm totally new to the software. We are using it in a retail environment.

Currently, we have relationships defined, such as we enter something in the "Part #" field, and it puts data from that file into the "Description" field.

My question is, would it be possible to define relationships in filemaker where I could type in the "Year", "Model/Size", and "Description" and have it fill in the "Part #" field from the inventory file without having to create another file for this process?

I'm sorry if it's a silly question, I've been using this program for about 4 weeks.

u can define field ""Part #" as a lookup field
or as a calucation field that "is equal the original field in onther DB" [:art_NO]

(assuming that u have the relationships set up)

We already have it set up. I guess to clarify, we are trying to do a multi-to-one relationship. The documents we have found only refer to one to one, one to multi, and multi to multi. Any other suggestions? Is this even possible?

depends on your indexes ...ifbecause u have Many model/year/description that have to match 1 Prod# it will be hard lookup....is there a way to enter Prod# and have the rest of the info look up?
perhaps LineItem is to be used....

Not established yet. We have a lot of chaos trying to get part numbers for products (we dig through catalogs like maniacs). We are just trying to simplify looking up the part number. The other function may come later.
