My employer has recently purchased a company in California that is running primarily on the BCM platform. In one location they have two BES50's on each floor handing both data and VOIP. Since I understand these to be standard PoE devices is there any compelling reason not to leave them in place when we deploy Shoretel? (We will install Gigabit switches for data at that time).

Thanks,

Yes, the entire company is on Shoretel. More than 1300 endpoints across North America.

If you're looking for a standard 802.3af switch, the BES50 should be fine.

We used to run a Nortel BCM at work and I had a BES50 at my house to power 3 Nortel IP phones. When we went to Cisco earlier this year, I kept the BES50 and place and it powers 3 Cisco phones + an access point without issue.

Are the BES50's Fast-Ethernet or Gigabit-Ethernet?

Be aware that the POE-Enabled ports are the first 12 ports of the device. Also, the Power Allocation for PoE ports is 84 watts.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. They're all 10/100's from what I have seen. Once the shakeout period has passed and I have a sense for headcount and space plan I might get more ambitious, but for the time being we just need to get everyone communicating and using the same tools.

I can't say I like the mounting arrangement though.
