Is anyone aware of a web service or free database that is available for obtaining longitude / latitude positions based on addresses that are passed in?

I found a pay one on the internet. Although it comes with a 100 free conversions, it can be quite pricey if you have a lot of data.

This activity will depend on the quality of your addresses. This process is horribly inaccurate with the address data found in most databases.

I worked in this business sector for several years at At the time, they had roughly 700 *terrabytes* of data online at any time involved mostly in address validation and standardization.

How good is your data? ;-)

I believe the data is pretty accurate. It is of major businesses in within the US. I am looking at less than 500 records.

Since addresses can be entered in a variety of ways, including prefix, suffix, and address1 / address2 combinations, I suspect there is a chance some could be incrorrect. However, I can run a script or two and idenity them.

However, I need a way of finding this information first before I can verify it.
