I am performing a file migration from a file server into Livelink I am using GCI Migration Manager to help create the control file. With this program I can choose to bring over modified data from the original file into livelink such as create and modified date however the program creates a default creator. I do not see a way for it to pull that information and I would hate to have to manually enter each user in the created by section on the control file since we are moving close to 7,000 individual files.

In short I am performing a migration from a file server into livelink I wish to retain all meta data of all of the files. In specific I need the created by field in livelink to be populated correctly with information from the owner field in Windows.

Thank you in advance!

I did and they were less than helpful, and according to them this product is not supported....however it is still on their website.

There is another OT product - File System Archiving (FSA). I'm not sure if it can retain created and modified dates but you can ask about it.

Generally, I'm not fan if someone wants to set properties like creator, modifier, created and modified dates. They are system properties used internally and appearing also in audit. Creator, modifier, created and modified dates from an original system (silesystem here) can be saved in custom attributes. This approach to the architecture saves money - no hacks and troubles.

If you know where the field is in the XML output, you could probably write a simple script to interrogate the files and update the XML prior to loading ?

extending the Objectimporter is also very easy.I have created additional metadata fields to the object exporter actually (audit, rmclassification) so that if you export files with OE on one livelink, the importing livelink will get that info as well.OI/OE is a framework so any person who knows oscript can do it.Obviously I have to put some logical business rules so that if the original user was not there on the source system I default to 'Admin' and say that in dauditnew as well.It saves our organization a lot of otherwise painful work in creating OI files.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Hello All, This is Tammy Jakubowski from GCI, and before that, Open Text. This product has long ago been removed from the GCI Corporate website. It is true that we are no longer supporting this product. It's located on the GCI Customer Portal for a few select customers who still use and have PAID for the product.

The GCI Power Tools Migration Manager does not have a way to pull the Windows owner field values and populate the document owner from that value as a valid, accurate, and exact-match Livelink user. You could to a global replace in the XML file for all user fields named for example "Richard R" to "rrichard" or whatever the Livelink standard is as one workaround. Then you'd need to do a global replace for all user names so they matched the Livelink one. Or, you could select Add A User from Livelink in the security section, then find the user in the popup window and select them. Once it's selected, it will be in the list from then. Either way, that is still a manual process for each document or group of documents.

If you have a problem with GCI's support or products, please contact info@globalcents.com or support@globalcents.com.

Regards,
Tammy

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions and Tammy you are correct I was finding this information on the Customer Portal page since we did pay for the product. Also thank you for your explanation on Migration Manager when I first called GCI support I left a message and the person who returned the call gave me an explanation that was not very detailed and did not leave a call back number.

I am currently performing the process that was outlined by Tammy and replacing the fields with Ultraedit and since the program has no automatic way of getting what I need with the GCI tool we can call thread closed.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
