Hello Everyone!

I will be creating a report for Budget vs Purchase .
I need some suggetions.
The report goes to differrent level people,so,we don't want the deparements to see other departments information.

What are the options i have for this.
If there is a thread already please point me to it,i couldn't find any.

i'm sorry
forgot to mention iam using crystal XI r2

I had a similar thing, but it needed third-party software to solve it.

What you could do is multiple versions, or multiple runs with a parameter. Maybe also a password as one of the parameters.

hai !

can you gime more information of the software,
I was thinking i can do something in the Business View Manager-which iam not familiar with but while browsing here i remeber seeing soemthing about soemthing like this.

But your suggetion looks good ,i like it may be i will try that in case.

thank you

But more suggetions welcome

Hi,
The Madawc idea of a password parameter is interesting but anyone using CR to run the report could look into the code in designer and see the various passwords and their access rights.

Perhaps, if the data is sensitive enough to need real protection, you should consider moving up to BOE or Crystal Report Server - There you can easily handle the restrictions by login id and password.

Hello Turkbear

Could you please give more details about it,i have no idea about it.

Hi,
Business Objects ( current owners of Crystal Reports) has 2 additional products specifically designed for multi user access ( through a web URL) to Crystal Reports that are published through their software app.

Look here for info and differences between ( neither is cheap)..

And

They also have intregated with VisualStudio so you can build apps from scratch:

if you are talking about BO Enterprise ,yes we do have it and we publish reports on the enterrpise users access them through infoview.
Please if thats what you meant, give me more information on how i can achieve this.

Hi,
If you require a login to access reports in the enterprise then that username can be used in a record selection formula to restrict what data is shown ( assuming that the department identifier can be used as a selection criteria)

The current username is a special field that can be used in the selection criteria ( and elsewhere as well)

Raja -

I don't want to promote a product, but I see that Ido responded and I have to give total Kudos to his product Visual Cut ( as it is an inexpensive solution which allows for me to automatically run the single report but it breaks out the reports by Departments and it pushes each report group into the Department's private folders (controlled by Active Directory permissions)

Hope this helps.
