guys,
i do have a question regarding mifrating my data for backup, is it possible to restore a mksysb of a PCI machine sunch as 6h model to an old MCA machine of RS, I wanted to use it for backup instead.. Is there any filesets i need?
Thanks!

bonsky,

Well to be honest I have never gone back to MCA from PCI only the other way. I would suggest however that in theory this should work, just ensure that you boot of the AIX cd rom and select advanced maintenance functions - restore from system backup. This will mean that any missing filesets are installed from the cd as required.

HI bonsky
I think restoring this way is as direct as restoring on another pci system whatever you else you need can be gotten from the AIX Cd's - think I have done this before sometime
43P - 150, to a 32H (or so)
Try it - adventure is sweet on AIX - ie if not on a production machine.

okay thanks.. ill try it later... but what if its the other way around ..just thought of that... MCA to PCI? would there be any problem??

You can clone a system between MCA and PCI, bidirectionally, with no problems. That is the joy of AIX and mksysb.

Disaster Recovery is a common scenario under which this is done.

We did this for Y2K testing and Disaster Recovery testing all the time.

If you "clone" the system properly, it will not cause any problems.

Bill.
