I want schedule a cold database backup followed by a restore job to restore the data to a different server than the one I backed up.
I can't figure out how to restore something that has not been backed up yet. The backup and restore job will backup and restore the same directories each time it is run.

What database are you using?

I'm not sure if this is possible with backup exec. Most database systems have their own backup routines creating their own backup files and restore routines. I don't think it advisable to backup the actual database files unless you are completely shutting everything down.

It is probably best and easier to use database backup and restore.

It is an Oracle Database and when I say cold, I mean all the Oracle services are shutdown.

I don't believe it is possible with Backup Exec. It uses the catalog to do restores and since the backup isn't in the catalog yet, you can't schedule it to be restored.
