I know that microsoft tells you that in order to restore exchange 2000 to a separate server that it has to be exactly the same as the production server(so that the system state restore will work). This seems expensive. Just curious if anyone has tried anything else for quick recovery in case of a failed hard drive or whatever.

What backup program are you using?

With Veritas Backup Exec, I have had success with restoring mailboxes to a different server. Provided the Name/ip address/domain name/administrator account and password, are all identical.
