Restoring Database from old to new NAM 1

Hi Folks,

I hope that someone has good news for me on this one!

Trying to back up the existing database on an old NAM voice mail system, and then restore it to a different NAM.

Keep getting Restore Aborted after a few minutes of restore operation...this worries me!

First of all, is this even possible? If not, why the restore feature?

Second, if it is, can I restore a 4.0 database to a 4.1?

Third, if it is not possible, can I install a new hard drive in the old unit and transfer the database that way????

Fourth, any other ideas??!!

You may find the floppy disk unit to be bad.
This seems to be a common issue with nams. You also must have the SEKUR(F915) files backup up. These are the license files that would need to go onto the new drive.
As far as 4.0 and 4.1 go, I believe you could restore to either, because your within a release. 3 to 4 wouldn't work.
Remember that the two backups you need are SEKUR capabilities, and the database(F983). Both come from different commands. If it's big system you many need up to 20 floppies. I hope this is of help to you.

Understood, but can I transfer these files from one NAM to another????

It does make sense that one could transfer files from one NAM to another with the SEKUR and database files intact. Just wanted to make sure, as I read an old post stating the opposite...

Anybody ever do what I am trying to do????

I've never had any luck with restoring a backup to a different NAM. Your mileage may vary.

UPDATE!!-I got it to work.

First, I got a floppy drive cleaning kit. Second, I waited until after hours to do a data backup so there would be no AA traffic. Third, I changed the DN to the appropriate DN on the new NAM before restoring the transferred database. BTW-I backed up a 4.0 NAM and restored it to a 4.1 NAM.
