We are making the decision to move from CA to Veritas for data backup needs.

Has anyone performed a migration from Arcserve 6.0/7.0 and/ or ASO2000 to Veritas NetBackup ? I realise CA products write a proprietary format for backup and do not have the ability to write a tar format for NetBackup to read.

Does anyone know of a third party tool that will allow me to convert CA format to tar?

As we have data that needs to be kept for 7 years, (legal requirements), I don't really want to have to maintain ArcServe for another 7 years.

Please don't suggest to me to do a new backup with Veritas and then I'll be OK. I'm talking about the possibility of having to access that data I backed up using ArcServe 12 months ago in 3 years time.

You could buy Backupexec, that will read arcserve format.
there is no way that netbackup will read ca's tape format.

Thanks for the reply. After doing some investigation 2 days ago I had found that "solution". Now here's where it gets interesting : sometime in Q1/Q2 of 2002 NBU will be able to read Bexec data. So there should be a solution through this intermediatory stage.
