Has anyone successfully restored a backup of an Exchange 2007 store/database using the Recovery Storage Group features of Exchange 2007? If yes, please tell me how you did it.

The reason I'm asking is I'm testing the recovery of my databases on my Exchange 2007 server. If I go in and use the granular features of Symantec, I can restore lost emails and not have to use the RSG features of Exchange. However, I cannot successfully recover databases utilizing the RSG feature. I get errors that I've mentioned in other posts here.

So I want to know if anyone has actually tried to use the RSG feature of Exchange 2007 in conjunction with Backup Exec 12.

Are you using a snapshot backup? I know in Exchange 2003, if you have a snapshot backup from using the AOFO, it will prevent you from restoring to a RSG. I'm not sure if that changed in Exchange 2007

I have been having continuous errors trying to perform an Exchange 2007 restore using Backup Exec 11d and 12. Using version 12 to restore DB to RSG I have received many errors and after working with Symantec Engineers am now working on Error: e000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status. I am not able to get a successful granular restore either. After upgrading to version 12 and applying all hotfixes and live updates the granular restores runs successful but the restored items do not show up in the mailbox. I have 2 cases open with Symantec. I will post the fix once we can get things working.

I have Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2003 SP2 up and running and am waiting for a successful restore test before I can migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2003. I am running Backup Exec ver 12 on Windows 2003 Std Ed SP2, 32bit.

The failed writer is going to be the Exchange shadow copy component. If you restart the server, or one of the services (sorry, can't recall which one), then the writer will function again but will fail as soon as you attemp the restore.

This is the same symptoms mine showed. I finally gave up trying to recover email that I had backed up prior to setting all the right flags in Symantec.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!
