Anyone know how/have an article that explains how to restore Exchange 2000 database files to a NEW installation of Exchange on a NEW installation of Win 2k Advanced Server?

Thanks!

hi mainmast,

here goes:

backup your exchange databases
make sure that the new exchange server has the same
settings as the old one and is on the same service pack.
Make sure the new server is a DC
on the new server, select "allow a restore to overwrite" in the mailbox and public folder properties.
dismount the stores
Restore the databases
Run eseutil on the databases
mount the stores

I think i have covered everything, there is probably another way but this is the only one i have used.

along with faq858-3927
All the best!

Based on those articles, after I install Exchange again, I need to remove the E00xxxxx.log files and copy over the ones from the previous installation as well as the databases. Is this correct?

i would delete the log files, you will have to, to get the mount done anyway.

So just delete the log files created by the new installation and then mount them without copying the log files from the previous installation folder to the new one?

yeah, the eseutil will generate log files if it needs them.
