I lost my public folders by way of Consistancy adjuster being ran from another location or site.I had to restore from back up tape. This restore was done an the second exchange server created on my network. The restore was first done on the first exch server created on the network. It did not work. The information store service and two other services did not start.

What I should had done first I did second. I created another box and restored to it. It worked. Now that server and the second server created shows every thing, but the first server I ran the restore backup on can't replicate from the other servers.

Is it because I reinstalled Exchange 5.5 with SP4? I did not add the server to an exsisting Site doing installation but I used the same organization and site names.

Do anyone know what i can do to get this server up and running?
The server's OS is 2000 advance server SP2with Exchange 5.5 and SP4. There is no errors in event viewer.

Make a backup of your priv.edb and pub.edb
Make csv-files of your recipient-containers
Reinstall exchange 5.5 with "join existing site" because you cannot connect 2 sites woth the same name.
Import the CSV files
Copy your edb-files
Run isinteg -patch
Directory replication will start automatically from the other server.

The only problem waht you will have will be the lost of the sitefolders (Free and busy, Offline adressbook) but these can be recreated (see technetart)

have fun

Thank you for you response. I have two servers. Before restoring and losing sever1, I moved all the mailbox to server2. Are you saying I will lose public folder on server2 when I do this.

Thank again,
Sherron

Make sure your ALL your public folders have replicated to both servers then rehome all the folders to Server2 and then remove the replicas on server1. You can also move the site folders onto Server2 and remove the Site Folders from Server1

This thread has the info
thread10-225586
and there are some MS KB articles on the issue

Chris.

Hi Chris

Thank you. I will tell you how I come out.
I already rehome the folders to server 2. I think the problem is I did not join an exsisting site on server 1. I was told not to join an exsisting site during installation. I created a new site using the same name on server1 and server 2 is not seeing server1. I am going to reinstall Exchange and join the exsisting site. Right now all mailbox are being used on server2 with public folders, so I don't have people unable to get mail. I have a little time to work with.

This is helpfull.
Thank You
