wussup everyone, ok I'm trying to do a simple restore job I have placed the media in one of the slots and when I run the job the "Please mount media" msg pops up so I hit ok but it just keeps poping back and the job cancels. Any one know why this is happening.
thanx
I appriciate it

When you say 'one of the slots', is it requesting that the tape be put in a particular slot? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

no I have put it in a empty slot, there are 24 slots in the tape drive, when the restore begins the tape is moved to the tape reader but then the alert pops up saying please mount the specific tape, but it's in there, I hit ok and the message pops up right away again,I hit cancel and the job stops. This is the first time this has happend I have ran restores b4 no problem.

Thanx
though

Make sure the restore job is asking for the same tape that's in the drive. I always mount the tape in the drive, then go into device manager to see the id of the tape. Then I create my restore job to use the same tape id. If the id's don't match, it will continue to tell you to mount the tape.

Hope this helps,
Debi

Make sure you can see the tape in device manager. If not, Rt click on the slot the tape is in and go to inventory offline slots.

So is anyone out there that knows whats going on here, the restore job starts and then asks for the media, but it's already in there, I can see from the device that it's the right one and all, any one I have tried everything.

I've recently experienced this problem - twice in the last few weeks. - Prior to this I updated to SP4 because of a different problem. I also installed the manager to a co-workers workstation - used for checking on jobs and swapping tapes.

Stopping and starting the tape engine resolved the problem.

PS. This also happened on a backup job - third time.

I see this all the time. ARCserve has a tendency to "forget" which tape is in what slot or which version of the tapes it has. Do an inventory of all tapes, and it should solve your problem. If this doesn't work, try merging the tape, (Manager\Utilites\Merge) then do the restore.

May also be an issue where it is apart of a seq that spanned tapes. Just put the next tape in the seq. in. This should work
