Hi,

we have a Legato server 7.2 running on Windows 2003. We do also backups of Novell 6.5 running on Legato client 7.2.

After applying a lot of Novell patches we are able to backup the data now.

But we cannot restore the data!!!

When I check the "required volumes" after selecting files for restore, Legato reports "unknown".

The strange thing with it is that I was able to restore some files last friday, after I have installed the client and applied all patches.
Starting this week I only get this "unknown" whatever I select in the restore window.

I also checked the index of the server and restored the latest version with nsrck -L7 ...

All of my clients ar defined in Legato with FQN like server.domain.xyz

Any ideas?

Hi,

I has similar problem with version NW Client for Novell version 4.22 (also got “unknown” as required volumes when started recovery procedure).
The solution that helped in this case was as follows: start Saveset Recovery from Novell NW Client, choose appropriate source and target client and when list of savesets appears, list required volumes. It should be shown OK. After this cancel Saveset Recovery procedure and start again normal recovery procedure.
It should be OK than.

Hopefully this will help you in your case.

Hi,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it does not work. :-(

The Novell client is configured in Legato as

"abc.domain.xy"

I would like to rename the client to

"abc"

in order to test if the restore behaviour changes.

When I do it and try to create the clientg resource with old id of abc.domain.xy, legato reports another id.
Before we switched to the new client version, the client has been created with short name "abc".

How can I get rif of this old client id?

Hi, set the smdr.cfg to the defaults and comment all lines out exept IP Address.

The 7.2 Client uses smdr to desire wich client it is (dont ask me how)

Hi,

thanks for your hint. It points to the right direction.

I configured smdr to

>>
SAP: Disable
HOSTS: Enable
SLP: Enable
PROTOCOL: TCPIP
IP: 10.150.71.61
ALTIP: 10.150.78.17
<<

Then I changed the etc/hosts file to

from
>>
10.150.71.61 abc abc.domain.xy
<<

>>
10.150.71.61 abc.domain.xy abc
<<

After reinitializing the system and reloading networkr
the client is reported in the Novell Legato "GUI" as abc.domain.xy (the same name as the NSR client resource defined on my Legato server)

Now the restore works and reports the required volumes!!

However it does not resolve the issue with the old client id. I still cannot rename the client from abc.domain.xy to abc on my Legato server. But at least the restore works. I hope that I get a solution on how to remove that old id soon.
