Facts:
- Netwokrer Server 7.4.3 Red Hat Linux x86

Client
- Microsoft Windows 2008 Server SP1 (32bit)
- Networkert Client 7.4.3

Discription:
We backup the Microsoft Windows 2008 with the save set All and without any errors.
If we make a complete restore over the existing Windows 2008 the server will reboot after the restore normally.
If i make a new installation of Windwos 2008 and then make a full recover with the same backup as before the server didn't reboot. It hangs before the login screen appears and automaticly restart againg.

Steps:
- I install a new Windows 2008 SP1
- Set the same IP Address and the computername as before
- install Networker client 7.4.3, connect to the Networker Server and restore
- The restore is sucessful without any error messsages
- After the Reboot the server can not start again. It hangs and make a loop.

Any Idee what the problem is?

Thanks for your help

Is your Server a domain Controller ?
Did you apply additional postfixes from Microsoft on your Server ?
Are both systems having the same windows root directory - e.g. c:\windows ?

no it isnt a Domain Controller just a normal Server.
We only installed the SP1 nothing else.

We installed the Server with Altiris.
Backup the Server (All)
Crash the Raid and new install from Altiris (Same Directory, Name and IP)
Install Networker and Start a Full reover.
Then Reboot. But the Server Hangs all the Time.

The Strange part is if i:
Install the the Server with Altiris.
Backup the Server (All)
Make a Full recover and reboot it worked.

I spent 2 weeks attempting to backup Windows 2008 server with Networker 7.4.3 client and found in Recover most of the individual files under C:\Windows are not backed up.
I assume these files are guarded by "Windows Resource Protection" and Networker is unable to back them up. I have submitted a list of files missed during backups to EMC support but no response yet.

If you view the properties for System Files, the only full access is given to the account TrustedInstaller. Any file tampering is fixed by the OS from a Cache.

You can try with W2K8 SP2. It seems to work better. But a certain number of files are still not restored (iis config, ...).

To be continued !!

I assume there is a problem between Networker and VSS.
You can try with mapping path (ex: \\servername\c$) ant it works.
