Could someone explain what the follow error is about?

"WARNING: To fully restore a Windows 2000 server or workstation,
the restore operation MUST be performed by a
Windows 2000 media server. Data loss can occur if the media
server is not running on a Windows 2000 computer."

Does this refer to individual files or some sort of full restore? What exactly does it entail?

We run backup exec off a nt4 server and it backs up a few other servers (one of them being win2k). On the win2k computer it only backs up basic data files, etc.

Thanks a lot guys.. I really am enjoying all the help from the fine members of Tek-Tips. :)

The Problem is that NT4 cannot see the System State of a W2K box. If you want to fully protect a W2K machine, than you need to have a backup of the system state. If something is happening to the W2K box, than you will have to reinstall the OS before you can restore your data. I would recommend to install Backup Exec on a W2K machine. That way, you will be able to backup the system state of the backup machine and remote W2K machines.

You can also load the agent onto the w2k server from the server you are backing up from. If you go into add/remove programs for Veritas go through the wizard and choose install agent on remote computer. Select your domain and computer and this will load the agent on.

You will then be able to tick the system state icon and do a full backup
