Restore of backup of MS Exchange server

i had made the backup of my exchange server thru Windows NT 4's backup utility. i had backed up information store and directory.
after that my exchange server got corrupt and i installed a new one, when i restore my backup it only resotred the mailbox resources but no receipents were restored, when i created new mailbox with same name and everything new mailbox resources created for them but old data didnt get accesssed thru it.

please tell me what i did wrong that my restore opertion is not restoring it completely.

I think the problem lies on the alias name of the user, It must be the same as the Records in the pri.edb
