We are using Arcserve 2000 advanced Edition Version 7.0 (Build 1110)

I'm trying to restore a tape. It's a set of two tapes but unfortunatly the second one has been formatted.

Is there a way to merge only the first tape and restore some data from it?

I have tried several things but Arcserve keeps asking for the second tape

This is a tough one. You may want to try "restore by media". When you use restore by media you are not quering the arcserve database. Just make sure that you have enough space to hold ALL the data from the tape.If you know the session number for the data you are looking for you are all set.

Hope this works.

Thanks for the link vschumpy. Unfortunately I've already tried that solution and it didn't work.

cacruz> Maybe I will try to "restore by media" although the required diskspace might be a problem. I do know that I will need session number 2. How can that help me?

Hmm it should work fine, however, providing the session you wrote to tape did not span to the second tape you could try a merge of just the sessions before the span to the next tape. Other than that, using a restore by backup media, or 'scanning' the tape may help. A Scan job will just write the contents of the tape (file and dir structure to the log file).

Remember with restore by backup media if you know what you want you can use filters to include/exclude as appropriate.
