Restore Help

Hello all,

I am in a situation where I need to rebuild a server. I am running r11.1 with no agents, and can do a full backup on the current system. I have never had to do a complete restore before, and I was wondering if anybody had any tips, tricks or links to help me out. Basically I need to know everything. Some specific questions:

Do ArcServe and the tape drive need to be installed on the machine in question, or can I do such a restore over the network? (AS and the tape drive currently are on another machine in the same domain.)

Does ArcServe restore over the current OS files, even while the OS is running?

Will this actually work, or should I just plan on doing a manual rebuild of the entire server?

current system"???
this does not sound like rebuilding a server but migrating the data to a new server.

local or remote it makes no difference.
overwriting active OS files is an issue.
normal DR does a temp install of a small footprint OS and then restores the regular OS.
if this to a new system may be best not to restore OS but only the data.

You will need to have the Agent installed to do "SYstem state" backups of the registry and os settings. I have done this before and restored a server completely at a DR site but is always a toss up when you reboot a freshly installed server. Make sure the Service Pack levels are the same and all should be fine.
