Caqn anybody tell me how to restore form a recyc saveset ? Our software support suppliers are... not very good.

NT4 Backup server
Legato 6.1.1
DLT

I have loaded the required tape which is still in the media index and tried the following commands:

scanner -i -S ********** -c client device
nsrck -L7 -t **/**/** client

I will be happy to wait for it to merge the whole tape as long as it adds the saveset back in to the index's.

Many thanks,

the commands you have tried work if the saveset is recoverable, i.e. out of the client index but still in the media database. You say yours is recyc, meaning out of both, so you must do
scanner -m -S ********** -c client device to rebuild the media datamase entry, then your nsrck command should work

It looks that you are surprised that the tape is still in the media db. This is obvious. How would NW know if it would have been deleted from the media index?

In fact you have several options how to recover such save set or part of it:

- you may rebuild the client file index info with "scanner -i ..." as you already found yourself.

- But this is not necessary - you may also recover the whole save set to a
temp direcoctry and retrieve your files from there.

- If you know the EXACT full pathname, you can recover a directory or files
from the command line. Use the following command:
recover -S ssid -a pathname

Good luck.

Thanks for your help all.

When I tried the scanner -I or Scanner -m command I was getting a message saying "make sure the device is set to no-rewind media".

In the end I found a way through the GUI. I launched restore on the backup server, selcted "restore saveset", select the client and all the old Save sets currently on media (recyc or not) were there to be restored. I have selcted a new location and the restore has completed successfully.

thanks again,

Neil

Yes, you can run save set recover rom the GUI.

Be aware that "scanner -m -S ssid" does not really make sense, although you can use it. However, why do you whant to scan for an info (the SSID) if you have this parameter is already available?
