Hi Experts ,

I´ve got errors when I restore Files with German Characters (üäöß) from a NW 4.11 server to an NW 6 NSS Volume
This happens with Arcserve 6.6IT (all Patches ) and Arcserve 9 (All Patches)
File were not created , Directories somtetime

All Files and Directories which have no german Characters in their names were retorsd without errors !!?

NW 4.11 SP 6 und 9
NW 6 SP 2 and SP 3 the same error

If I rstore to a traditional Volume on NW 6 the Restore works fine .

Any Ideas ????

You can get an E3208 error if the original volume had compression enabled and the target volume does not have compression enabled. Files that were uncompressed when backed up will restore OK but compressed ones will fail.

Don't know if this is relevant to your situation, but try retoring to a traditional volume with compression disabled and see if you get the error.

Pete

I Tried to restore to Traditional Volume and I got no
Errors,
I Think there is no way to restore german characters (ßüöä) from Nw4.11 to NW 6 NSS . I Read about a Change of DOS Name handling when NW5 came up , there german Characters were no more allowed.

But in TID´s of Novell I Haven´t found anything

Thanks

I can't help you then. You might need to keep a traditional volume available to restore your old tapes to.

Pete

As already stated, a compressed file will not restore to an NSS volume. If you create a new file with German characters on the NSS volume and back it up, does it restore?

No , i built an extra NW4.11 SP9 Server (without any compression) in the NW66 Testree
I can backup restore every file except the files/directories which names cantain german Characters ...

Answer for theLad : Hi , If I create a german-Character File or dir I can save and restore , only when i comes from NW4.11 I get the errors ... I read that tere was a change to dos-File-name-rules when NW5 came up ?

Hey Folks,
Doesn't the readme file for ARCserve 9 say something about limited support for French and German characters? I don't have it in front of me, but I seem to remember something like that.
Good luck!

Hi elanor , parallel to this thread I have a paid call at CA in 5 Phone Calls they said nothing about restrictions for german / french

Hey JoBlomberg,
Check out the Known Issues section of the readme file. Again, I don't have it in front of me, so I can't be sure it applies to you, but I'm pretty sure it said something about limited support for German characters. Hey, you never know...it might help!
Sorry I can't be more precise, but the memory goes as I age!
Good luck!

Hi elanor , in readme is written that only the visualization is bad , the function backup and restore work .
