restore from imported media on backup exec 8.5

I had a backup exec 8.5 server installed and it crushed.
After a new installation of the server and the program, there is no history of course of backups and restores.
I want the media to be identified by the server, hence to perform a restore.
What can be done in order to have the server identify the "old" media with its data?

catalog the tape

how do I do that?

If its a single tape drive insert the tape, goto the device tab in back up exec and right click on the drive and first inventory , then right click and catalog.
