As I wait for a response from Computer Associates... I know this topic has been brought up before, but I can't quite get it right. I installed Arcserve 11, and the 11.1 upgrade. I can successfully run a backup, but when I attempt to resore by session, it says that the session has been pruned, and do I want to merge? Still no details after a successful merge. There are no .cat files in the temp folder (if there were, mergecat.exe would work). This happens even if I reinstall the software from scratch. Any solutions????

clarification: it says the session has no details, NOT that it has been pruned. And the catalog database option IS enabled.

HI,

on the backup server..
open the registry ..

Stop all ARCserve services
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ ComputerAssociates \ BrightStor ARcserve Backup\ Base \ Task \

Key Name: DonotUseCatalogMerge
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0x1

Start the ARCserve services..

run a merge..

cheers

So it Shall be Done!!

thanks!! I'm trying that now, but can you clarify? If I create the new key DonotUseCatalogMerge under Task, it has a default value which is type REG_SZ. Are you saying to create a new Value of type REG_DWORD under the DonotUseCatalogMerge Key? or did you mean for DonotUseCatalogMerge to be the Value? Does that make sense?

ACK! Here's the solution, everyone. Make sure your backup system account is in all the right groups. Mine was in a test lab and I didn't have modify access to the temp folder. Case closed.
