We had a power failure a couple weeks ago, and ever since we have had this problem. Our SQL Server is scheduled to reboot itself once a week. It reboots fine, but after it reboots, the MSSQLSERVER service won't start even though it's set to automatic. If we go into the service and RE-TYPE our password, then you can start the services. We don't have to change the password, simply re-type it.

Is there a fix to this so that we don't have to keep manually starting the services by re-typing the existing password? Thanks in advance for any input.

We all agree your theory is crazy, but is it crazy enough?

Check in the Services folder of the server and make sure the SQL Server service is set to start automatically. If not, reset it.

Thanks

Look in the Windows Application and System event logs to see if there are any errors as to why the service did not start.

Thanks

Check the machine/domain account that the Service is mapped to. Maybe something there got corrupted or just needs some attention before it works again. Also, try re-entering the password in the Services folder instead of the Server Properties window. If there's some sort of "brain fart" on the part of the machine, that may help. Or not.

Yeah, I'm having a very weird day. @=)

Hope this helps.
