Resource Explorer & Software Updates

A couple of pre-production machines, including my own, have no 'Software Updates' icons to view which updates are available and/or applied. I tried removing the client using ccmclean, rebooting and reinstalling. The option is still unavailable, why? How can I get the software updates portion of resource explorer to become visible on these troublesome clients?

You must install the SUS scanning tools on your SMS site server before you will see this in your SMS database:

There are multple different scanning engines that you must install. See Scanning Tools under this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/smserver/downloads/2003/default.asp#heading5

Install them all. (MS is about to release a consolidated scanning engine that works more like Windows Update in July) but these will have to do for now....

Once you install the scanning tools and run the advertisements in your environment, you will see this data...it will not be there by default.

nope...

Once you install the scanning tools and run the advertisements in your environment, you will see this data...it will not be there by default.
(run the Expidited Program...this will initiate hardware inventory immediately after the scan...this will send the data back to the SMS site server...)
