I cannot resolve names from IP-addresses in Windows XP. I use "ping -a" command. Same command works in Windows 2000 on same lan with same wins/dns.

Anyone with ideas?

Thanks, but that did not do it.

This is the problem:
C:\>ping
Pinging a562.cd.akamai.net [213.161.82.42] with 32

Reply from 213.161.82.42: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=49
.....

C:\>ping -a 213.161.82.42

Pinging 213.161.82.42 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 213.161.82.42: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=49

I cant resolve hostname from an IP-address! Is this a common "problem" in Windows XP?

There could be several causes for this. A good troubleshooting site is Robert Lin's Chicago Tech website. See under Troubleshooting the "Browser Issue" section:

bcastner - You don´t have the same "problem"?

I apologize, I thought you were resolving localnames as you mentioned WINS.

Ping -a does not return the Host name.
nslookup IP will, except if the request is refused. At this time trying to resolve Hostnames with any Microsoft (Akamai) server is going to be refused. This is a msblast protection.

Try or something else besides Microsoft.

I apologize too, I wrote wrong subject for this thread. I´m frustrated about this! Very irritating! :)

As I mentioned, this works in Windows 2000. But not in Windows XP!
