What is the best resolution setting to export to acrobat for printing to get the best colour image and sharp text
 
This depends on the type of printing and how you have created your art. Are you placing rasterized type into InDesign?

If you are uncertain about output, use the general PDF/X-1a profile. Adobe's default for this profile is 300ppi.
 
Thank you for your reply. I normally export to pdf using 300. But I will try PDF/X-1a. I print just using a inkjet purely a home user doing stuff for the local community parish magazine and poster stuff
 
That was very useful and something I did not know. Could you please tell me what the other output presets in CS5 represent.
