Hello Everyone,

Could someone tell me why routers/firewalls always need to be reset periodically? I have worked with all sorts of brands (both wired and wireless) and always have the same task of resetting them now and then.

Liam

Who says they need to be periodically reset? I have a router that is handling an ATM WAN, two PRI voice trunks for inbound and outbound calling, routing between multiple subnets at the site, and as a backup call controller for the phone system that has been up for over a year without any degradation in performance:

Houston3660 uptime is 1 year, 7 weeks, 4 days, 13 hours, 57 minutes

I have no intention of rebooting it unless I need to do a software upgrade or something else.

I think he is talking about a Linksys because I had to reboot my linksys router/firewall almost everyweek because it locks up. that why i bought a Cisco 1720 to replace it.

Regular corporate routers rarely need to be rebooted . As for home stuff for $50 as the old adage goes you get what you pay for.
