Hey Tek-Tips,

I'm surprised that I haven't run into this before, but I have a new user who is taking over the extension of a previous employee. We got the phone all set up in the new users name and reset the passcode for the voicemail.

However, the outgoing recording is of the previous user and the inbox has 14 old messages.

Is there a way to do a complete reset of the voicemail so it's like brand new?

I'm sure this is a silly question, but I've never been faced with this yet.

Thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, change the name in the system, the top of the 2 places "Name" is what the mailbox is generated against, "Full Name" is what is displayed on handsets and used by dial by name etc.

Make sure there are no new messages waiting or the light will get stuck on :)

Hey AmRiddle01,

Thanks for your reply. Maybe there's an issue with this mailbox then. We've changed the name twice the previous employee left.

When someone leaves, we change the name to ExtnXXXX (where XXXX is the extension number) so we know it's an available extension. And then we changed the name to the new user's name when she started.

I found in Voicemail Pro that I can right-click the user's inbox and click "Clear Mailbox" and that will empty the messages...but I still have the previous users recording.

Maybe that's why I haven't run into this before is because changing the name has cleared the other mailboxes.

Is there any way to manually reset the voicemail box? Perhaps if I turn the Voicemail option off, save the config, then turn it back on?

Anyways, thanks for your input!

Do you change it in both places though? It should wipe the mailbox completely as it creates a new one :)

While changing the name in manager (the top one, not Full name) should create a brand new mailbox, I've seen cases where sometimes it did not. Sometimes that was due to the new name not being unique. Other times I've had to restart the vmpro service. If all else fails, delete the folder with the extension name under the Accounts folder on the vmail server and restart the voicemail pro service.

Thanks for the info! I'll give those a try once I get the OK to reset the inbox. Now that we know there's messages in there, they want to give them a listen to make sure nothing important is in there.

I'll revert back once it's complete.

Thank you!

you can also clear a mailbox from the VM pro client. if you expand users and right click on the user you need to change you have an option for clear mailbox.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

He/She has done that already, doesn't clear the greeting though does it :)

Then delete the user and extension (also in vmpro) and restart the vmpro service.
