I did get the 3X8 to default to factory with the removal of the capacitor. It is interesting that the capacitor will retain a charge for over a year in the unit. I have several units that I removed to install newer systems and I am getting back to default to offer for sale. I have 3 of the BCM50's and 2 of them have unknown passwords. I am hoping to get them defaulted so that I can sell them also. How can I get the password reset of them?
The BCM 50 password (and programming) can be defaulted with a level 2 reset. But if you don't have the license file available to reload you will then have a door stop.
Another way to obtain the licence file on a BCM 50/450 or 400 V4.0 system (Linux) is to remove the hard drive and attach it to your computer using a USB to IDE/SATA cable.
Obtain some freeware software such as Linux reader and you can copy the licence file to reuse once you have defaulted the BCM via the level 2 reset procedure.
Although this isn't the actual process, it shows you the file name that you need to look for.
