I put together new hardware for one of our sites, and decided to update RES from 5.4.4 to 5.7.6 while we were making the effort. The server is running in a Hyper-V VM. The VM has 12 cores and 32GB of RAM assigned and its running on Server 2016. The Server has a shared NIC for internet, but a dedicated NIC for the RES LAN. It should be noted, the same box also has another VM which runs a Card System with its own database as well. These VMs are replicated on another machine for backup.

The installation process went fairly well. I was able to install pre-reqs, installed RES, Migrated the 5.4 DB, Upgrading the DB went smooth. Then got all the 610 Workstations updated. The system seems to work ok, we haven't run into any specific errors. However, we have been experiencing all sorts of lag with this setup. Things like Manager Procedures takes forever to open (more than a minute sometimes). It takes several seconds just to open the keyboard to search items in MI Availability for example. Additionally, when we get really busy, Credit Card Auths begin to take an extremely long time. Resetting CCS will speed it up again for a short time, however it will quickly grind to a halt again when we have high volumes.

We've rebuilt the database, updated the table statistics, checked load on the NICs, checked for network latency, monitored DB performance in SyBase, and more, nothing stands out to me as far as where the issue may be coming from. However I fear there is something I may have overlooked causing these issues for us. I have an SR open with Oracle, however I'd like to get some input from here as well.

Turns out it was something that we all overlooked.
BitDefender, our AntiVirus, was active scanning the Database. DUH.
Added Sybase SQL to the exclusion list and bam, everything nice and speedy again.

You should configure your antivirus so it won't interfere with MICROS.

Sometimes it doesn't happens right at the moment.

Btw mate, any chance that you can share the 5.7.6 patch?

For sure, it was very bizarre I only started having issues weeks after setup. However it operated smooth all day yesterday and so far today. As far as sharing the patch, I'm not sure if I am allowed to directly post it.

However its not hard to find, if youre an Oracle customer you simply go to their Support website. support.oracle.com
If you used cloud support, you'll need to switch to the My Oracle Dashboard. Then go the the patches tab, and search for RES 3700 5.7
All of the updates from 5.7.1 to 5.7.6 are uploaded there.
